Known as The Southern Gateway to British Columbia, Sparwood is quickly becoming one of the province's most popular year-round getaways.
In addition to its rich coal mining history, Sparwood has a vast backcountry area waiting to be explored.
Sparwood is ideally situated to take full advantage of outdoor recreation throughout the year. Just 30 minutes away, Fernie Alpine Resort offers skiing, snowmobiling and a host of other winter activities. In the summer months, bikers and hikers can take full advantage of the beautiful Elk Valley Provincial Park. Sparwood’s alpine setting in the midst of lakes, glacier-fed rivers and woodlands make it a hunting and fishing paradise. For the golfer, the Whiskey Jack Resort is the newest development in Sparwood. Designed by Fred Couples, this course features 18 holes of championship golf in a magestic Rocky Mountain setting.
Sparwood is located at the junction of Highway 3 and Highway 43 in the BC Rockies, less than 20 kms west of the Alberta border and just 29 kms north of Fernie.
