Nakusp is a small vibrant, rural community, located on the shores of Upper Arrow Lakes, where the spectacular environment encourages healthy lifestyles. It is a well-rounded town offering not only spectacular scenery but many recreational venues as well as an impressive arts community.
With its diverse economic activity the village issues approximately 200 business licenses a year.
Historically, the mining and logging industries have dominated Nakusp's economic activity. Recently, Nakusp's economy has diversified, with the village issuing many new licenses to businesses in tourism and the service sector.
In the warmer months, residents of this area enjoy the 9-hole golf course, hiking and biking trails, and fishing and boating in the many nearby lakes and streams. During the winter, Summit Lake Ski Area, the local hill, provides excellent downhill skiing. Nakusp has many snowshoeing and cross-country ski trails, as well as superior snowmobiling terrain. Additionally, Nakusp is a hub for Canadian Mountain Heli-Skiing. We are also located just one and a half hours south of Revelstoke Mountain Resort, one of BC's best ski resorts.
The town is well-known for its soothing Hot Springs and active community. Nakusp's Arts Council is very busy, offering a Concert Series, hosting an annual Fall Fair, and acting as an umbrella for smaller arts societies in town. Nakusp has an annual Music Festival in July, as well as weekly outdoor concerts throughout July and August. Further, Nakusp is home to an outstanding library, a beautiful public beach and park, and a recreation centre with an ice arena, and tennis and squash courts.
Revelstoke is located 101 km north on Hwy 23. Vernon is 196 km southwest on Hwy 6 and Nelson is located 149 km southeast on Hwy 6.
